Biography

Born and raised in Brent, North-West London, Rosie Brighton was introduced to a diverse range of music from early in her life. At school, she encountered multiple styles of music from around the world due to the multi-cultural population at her school, including traditional music from India, China, Japan, Nigeria, Jamaica, and South America. She began piano lessons at the age of 8 and continued her musical education in school throughout GCSE and A level, while also studying violin and guitar.

At school she discovered her interest in composing and joined the BBC Young Composers Inspire Scheme where she was able to write and perform compositions created by herself and other young composers collaboratively. She also had the opportunity to write and conduct her own music for the ensembles at her school for public audiences. It was around this time she started writing music for films, composing her first film score for ‘John Tregenoweth – His Mark’ and ‘A Temperance Tale’.

In 2019 she began a degree in Composition at Trinity Laban. During her time there she explored classical orchestration, jazz composition, and electronic sonic art music – all with the goal of developing these skills for a future in film and video game music. She studied with Amir Konjani, Alex Paxton, Soosan Lolavar, Deirdre Gribbin, Stephen Montague, Paul Newland and Nye Parry, who helped her develop a range of skills and styles that she now utilises in her work.

In 2020, while assisting in the organisation of a music for cinema project in Deptford, she discovered her love for creating animated content and writing music for it, and animations ended up being repeatedly featured in her future projects. She also reached out to game developers such as Kraken Entertainment and gained experience writing music for indie games, some of which will hopefully be released in the future.

In 2021 she entered the Trinity Laban Digital Collaboration Competition, where she created the animated video “Ha, I Wish”, for which she won two of four prizes; best composition and best duo. During the latter part of her time at Trinity Laban, she completed modules in conducting, scoring music for film, and creating main themes for games. She also led the Composers’ Forum, where composers from Trinity Laban could meet and share works, inspirations and ideas. In February 2023, she co-wrote the music for “Ye Olde Soup”, a video game created by a group of music, dance, and musical theatre students in 4 days.

For her final, Rosie developed an immersive theatre escape room experience based around puzzles and musical clues. This created a space for her to simulate composing music for games as the experience had a live ensemble playing background music heavily inspired by video game soundtracks.

Having recently graduated from Trinity Laban, she has a 1st Class Honours Degree in Composition with Silver Medal Award for Outstanding Achievement. She is currently working on a short film soundtrack for KiddLowe Productions and will have her work for a 1920s animation premiered at the beginning of 2024 as part of the Silent Composition project. She aims to continue her career in soundtracks and background music, while maintaining and offering a versatile, innovative set of musical styles.
